Willy West opens!
On Monday, Nov. 15th, 2010 at 10am, Willy Street Co-op opened its second store. Willy West is located at 6825 University
Ave. in Middleton.
"We've worked on this for a very long time," said Brendon Smith, the Co-op's Director of Communications. "I'm glad that the
store is finally open and I'm gratified at the warm welcome the community has given us." Two-hundred and sixty people
became new Owners on the first day Willy West was open, the largest single-day increase on record.
Willy Street Co-op, which specializes in locally prepared, natural and organic foods, has had a store on Williamson St. in
Madison since it opened in 1974. In that time it has moved to larger and larger spaces on that street as more people have
been interested in knowing where their food comes from and how it was produced, and the number of Co-op Owners have
increased. Today the Co-op has over 20,000 Owners.

Willy West has a few extra features that Willy East doesn't - a
full-service meat counter, an expanded deli with a self-service hot
bar and a beer and wine section. Both stores have a bulk foods
department, health & wellness department (offering vitamins,
supplements, soap, toothpaste, etc.), packaged groceries and
organic fruit and vegetables.
You don't have to be an Owner to shop at either store. There is
typically a 5% surcharge for non-Owners, but that has been
waived through the end of 2010. Benefits of becoming an Owner
include Owner-only sale prices, a patronage refund during
profitable years and a vote in Board elections and other major
