The Philippine Center Free Medical Clinic receives $2,500
Local Pediatrician Named “Classic Woman” by "Traditional Home"

Honored for Work at PCCCF Free Medical Clinic

Milwaukee, WI – October 20, 2010 – Local pediatrician Violeta Singson, M.
D. is one of six women chosen as a "Classic Woman" by Traditional Home
magazine.  Traditional Home sponsors the "Classic Woman" natonal
contest every year to honor volunteers.  Singson is featured in the
November issue of the magazine.  She will be flown to New York City to
receive her award.

Violeta Singson was born and earned her degree in medicine in the
Philippines.  She became a U.S. citizen and established her practice in
Milwaukee.

Despite lower pay and other difficulties, Dr. Singson chose to focus on
serving children in the inner city.  Singson saw great need above and
beyond her practice, and that’s why she—along with the Philippine Cultural
and Civic Center Foundation (PCCCF)—started the PCCCF Free Medical
Clinic.  She is the Clinic’s Medical Director.

The PCCCF Free Medical Clinic operates two mornings a month and
serves people regardless of race, age, gender, religion, employment or
immigration status.  Services and medications are provided absolutely
free.

Hundreds are served every year.  Since the Clinic opened in October 2000,
more than 2,300 people have been treated 5,000 times, including people
from Mexico, and Tanzania, as well as people from all over Wisconsin and the U.S.  There is great diversity among the health care
volunteers as well as the clientele.

As Medical Director, Dr. Singson arranges volunteer physician schedules, supervises volunteers, treats patients, and solicits
donations of time, money, medication, and supplies.

Because the cost of health care and the number of uninsured continues to rise as the economy worsens, the Clinic is a potentially
life-saving program.  Those with chronic illnesses treated at the Clinic avoid costly emergency room visits, and help keep health
costs lower for everybody.

VIOLETA SINGSON OF MILWAUKEE, WI HONORED WITH
TRADITIONAL HOME MAGAZINE’S CLASSIC WOMAN AWARD

Awards Honor Six Extraordinary Women’s Commitments to Volunteerism
Featured in the November 2010 Issue

Milwaukee, WI (October 19, 2010) –Violeta Singson, M.D., and her Milwaukee-based Philippine Cultural and Civic Center
Foundation Free Medical Clinic will receive one of Traditional Home magazine’s 2010 Classic Woman Awards. Singson is
also featured in the magazine’s November 2010 issue.

Traditional Home Editor in Chief Ann Omvig Maine, along with co-host actress, author, and healthy living enthusiast Mariel
Hemingway, will honor Singson at the magazine’s premier Classic Woman Awards luncheon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel
ballroom in New York City on October 25. The event will honor recipients of the magazine’s sixth-annual Classic Woman
Awards, a signature program that celebrates the spirit of volunteerism by recognizing standout charitable women from
across the country.

Singson serves as medical director of a free clinic for the uninsured and underinsured, held in the offices where she has her
regular pediatric practice. The 67-year-old breast cancer survivor says she enjoys pulling double duty as an admitting clerk.
“Standing in front of the registration desk gives me the chance to interact personally with all the patients who sign in. I find it
very satisfying when I can greet them by their full names and later see their glow of joy as they bid good-bye with their bags of
free medicines,” she says.

Singson started the clinic in 2000 for patients of all ages after noticing that many parents had stopped bringing their children
for well-baby exams because they had no insurance. “This was the time to give back to my community,” she says. In the 10
years since, the clinic has treated many Filipinos among the 2,200 patients seen in some 5,300 visits (Violeta and husband
Juanito immigrated to Wisconsin in 1967 after finishing medical school in the Philippines).

In previous issues and on its Web site, Traditional Home invited its 4.2 million readers to nominate women who are making
a positive difference in their communities. The magazine’s editorial staff and the judges pored over the nominations to
choose six women who truly are changing the world one day, one person at a time.

The six honorees will receive a trip to New York City, where they will be honored at the Classic Woman Awards luncheon on
October 25. In addition, each honoree’s chosen cause will receive a contribution from Traditional Home. The women and
their causes are also featured in the magazine’s November 2010 issue, which will hit newsstands October 19. Sponsors of
the 2010 Classic Woman Awards program are Cambria, Lee Industries, and Arte Italica.
