MACCO celebrates
Moon Festival 2008
A Video Report by Heidi M. Pascual
     Hundreds of family members and friends got together at Eagle Heights Community
Center on a cool Friday evening, Sept. 12, to celebrate Moon Festival. There were LOTS
of good Chinese food, courtesy of families and some local Chinese restaurants, sold
for $6 per meal, which also raised funds for MACCO (Madison Area Chinese
Community Organization). Entertainment was provided by:  1) the Madison Chinese
Taichi Club led by Hui Cheng, with their "Taichi Ball" number that truly explored the
dancers' skills in keeping the ball up while it was bounced in different directions and
manner as they "danced;" and their "Sand Jar Exercise," a routine number that explains
why these Chinese women are physically fit and healthy;
2) Hua Mulan Dance group led by Dalian Urbonya, with their ribbon dance titled "Happy
Spring";
3) Asian Pacific Study Dance Group performed Xinjiang dance, "Uighur Dance," and
their version of ribbon dance. Joy Chen explained that her first dance meant "a woman's
desire for happiness, peace and love."
     There was also a talent show that highlighted kids' musical talents.
     More than the food and the entertainment, though, was the happy aura of the
occasion that showed the values of unity, happiness, and community among the
Chinese in the Madison area as well as their friends and guests.
