IGSA-Asha Madison fundraiser for Bihar flood victims

MADISON, WI, Sept. 5, 2008 -- The Indian Graduate Students Association (IGSA) at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, in coordination with Asha-Madison, held a fundraiser today at UW Union South, to help the
victims of the recent floods in Bihar, India. Natalia Hildner, a UW-Madison graduate and well-known Kathak
dancer, led the performers who freely contributed their talents for the cause: Prathiba Nandagudi
(Bharatnatyam), Sunil Sunkara (Kathak); Richard Hildner and Numa Armacanqui (Peruvian music and vocals).
According to Natalia Hildner who just arrived from India on an advance study tour, there is so much hardship
in Bihar as the people who were just hit by this tragedy are already very poor and in need of basic services even
before the floods came. Now they have lost everything, and many families also lost loved ones when the Kosi
River inundated hundreds of villages and towns in Bihar. Funds raised from this special IGSA-Asha event will go
to the flood victims through TSN, a nonprofit in India.
