Bayview Triangle Ethnic Fest 2009
a video report by Heidi M. Pascual
For 25 years, the Bayview Foundation has been offering to the Madison community a wonderful festival and tradition that
truly reflects the multicultural and diverse population of Greater Madison — the Triangle Ethnic Fest. The "Triangle" refers to the
area bounded by West Washington, Regent Street, and South Park Street. On August 16, 2009, amid the threat of a stormy
weather, the Bayview neighborhood welcomed neighbors, friends and guests at the festival, which featured cultures of the
world performances, ethnic foods (offered by food vendors such as Vientine Restaurant, Leon Garcia, Italian American Women's
Club, Jamerica, etc), children's activities, a photo exhibit, a silent auction, arts and crafts, and many more.
The main program on stage was emceed by top executives in the "neighborhood," such as Dr. Frank Byrne (St. Mary's
Hospital President); Jim Woodward (Meriter Hospital President); Dan Nerad (MMSD Superintendent); and Andy Heidt
(Neighborhood community leader). Performers, who proved to one and all that they were "world-class" in many ways, were: the
All Around the World Youth Dancers, Viv Neaus Hmong Dancers, Italian Folk Dancers of Madison, Sadira & the Riad Dance
Company, Music Makers (violin group), 608 BBOY Alliance, Judy McNeal (Cooper), Folklore Village International Dancers,
Salaam Shalom (Arabic & Jewish), Ballet Folklorico Mexico Avila family, Gaelic Fusion Dance Company, MadCity Tango
Performance Group, Call for Peace/Art and Maral Shegonee, Christina Bokas (Native American Hoop Dancer), Capoeira Angola
Madison, Duo Acustico Peruvian, Meenakshi Ganesan and Kalaanjali Dancers, Goon Goo Peas, and Mesoghio Greek Dance
Troupe.
Attendees had a great time, sharing the richness of world cultures present in our neighborhood. Congratulations to Bayview
Exec. Director David Haas, the Festival Coordiantor; Fest Committe Chair Gray Williams, and all those hardworking men and
women who worked with them. May God Bless you all for the gift of Triangle Ethnic Fest to us all!
