Nepali American Friendship Association celebrates New Year

The Nepali American Friendship Association (NAFA) once
again showed what "community" really means when the group
celebrated New Year on April 16 at Eagle Heights Community
Center in Madison. Families came in record number, with
ethnic food to share and children and adults ready with their
prepared performances to entertain and to spotlight their
cultural music, songs, and dances.
Ladies wearing their colorful saris grouped together to tell
their stories or simply to say hello and keep abreast of what's
going on in their community and families. Men, in like manner,
grouped in semi circles to discuss "male" stuff and common
issues.
Outgoing President Sreedhar Ranabhat was obviously very
proud of his board's accomplishments the past year, which
included sports competitions, scholarships, fundraisers, and
community get-together to bond Nepali members and help
one another.
A new board took its oath of office as well, and promised to
continue the work of the past leaders with renewed
vigor and enthusiasm. -- Heidi M. Pascual
