Wisconsin Chinese Culture Day 2008
A video report by Heidi Pascual
The Madison Area Chinese Community Organization led the 2nd Wisconsin Chinese Culture Day on the steps of the
State Capitol on May 31, 2008, both as a celebration of the Chinese culture and as a fund raiser to help the victims of the
May 12, 2008 earthquake in China. Aside from several performances from local schools teaching Chinese language and
culture as well as from the Milwaukee Chinese community, there were a moment of silence, words that conveyed sorrow,
and songs that reflected  the feelings of sympathy for those whose lives were shattered by the calamity that struck
Sichuan province. Families, restaurants, and bakeries cooked/baked food for sale, while others sold art work and crafts
along Martin Luther King Boulevard, and the proceeds of the sales would be used to help the families of the quake
victims. Below are two clips of the performances, capped with the joyful expectation of the Beijing Olympics.
