It's all about community
Kennedy Heights Community Center's
Spring Fling 2008
A Video report by Heidi M. Pascual
How often does one observe a small community with a diverse population joining hands to
celebrate the changing of the season? In my case, not often. Perhaps because I do not
receive all the invitations to such gatherings, or because the "event" is so small, people don't
consider it a "media attraction." To me, however, it is important for the larger community to
know that celebrations like this in a small neighborhood (regardless of whether or not it's just
an excuse to gather and have some laughs), when repeated in many or all neighborhoods in
Madison, Wisconsin, can make a big difference in promoting harmony, understanding, and
love in this city.
At Kennedy Heights Community Center's 2008 Spring Fling on May 4, I found exactly these
values as I watched neighbors enjoyed each other's company within their own big parking lot,
with a musical program and plenty of activities and games for children, as well as free
hotdogs and drinks!! I'd like to say, "I salute you, Alyssa Kenney, and your staff, as well as the
many volunteers" who worked hard to make this day a very special day for every one. We may
not be a wealthy community, money-wise, but this community is very wealthy of the most
important values that money can't buy!
