The "rebellion" against Wisconsin's "Despotic Regime"
A public employee speaks out in protest

Not for themselves—they implement austerity on their citizens, so that whatever social programs there were are now
eliminated and poverty reigns supreme. Children die of hunger, young girls work for 14 hours a day, girls, boys and women
are forced into prostitution, epidemics spread, violence rules the streets.
In such situations, people take jobs that pay $1-2 a day. They sell their children to serve and be abused by the ruling class.
They agree to take contaminated and radioactive trash. They are easy to repress because when you’re hungry and have no
home, health care, education or hope, you’ll do whatever it takes to get these things…for a while. Until you rebel. We see it
happening now and we’ve been seeing it for a while.
As the Trd world refuses to continue playing this part in the tragedy that the very rich have authored, the chickens are starting
to come home to roost. “Why not implement this in the United States?” think the Koch Brothers and their cohorts. “I’m happy
to be the despot who’ll do it for you,” pipes Scott Walker--and we get the Budget Repair Bill.
Repair what? There is no financial crisis in Wisconsin or in the US. The money that we had 3 and 10 years ago is still
here—it didn’t disappear underground nor did it evaporate. It went into the pockets of Wall Street bankers and the likes of
the Kochs, who in turn have even more money with which to buy politicians. The money was taken from us—by those who
were already obscenely rich, just like in the Third World. Add to that the tax cuts for those same rich—they don’t pay tax, nor
do they participate in the “sacrifice” they call for from us. These cuts, growing annually at least since the Reagan years, add
to the massive theft of the past few years—and, they’ve created this supposed crisis.
One that’s easy to fix. Let the banks and huge corporation which we bailed out return the money that we gave to them—and
let those corporations—2/3rd of which do not pay any tax at all—start paying their fair share. If this were to happen, we’d all
be getting the raises that we so well deserve. The corporations and the very rich need to start paying taxes. This must
become a rallying cry; it’s extremely important!
Instead, we’re told that it’s time for austerity measures. Walker and his clones in other states want to cut every life
supporting and sustaining program. Medical Assistance and Badger Care. Education. Infrastructure other than roads.
Housing help. Heat during winter. Food for hungry children. Help for single parents. Recycling. The arts. Free media. And, of
course, the bargaining rights that have helped us get things like health care, weekends, 40 hour work weeks (which, for
many public employees, have become 45, 50 and even more hour weeks because of previous cuts).
• In the dream world of the rich and the Republicans--a nightmare for the rest of us—those who still have a job will have
no disposable income and so will not be able to buy things. Small businesses will go belly up one after the other. The
owners of these businesses might eventually lose their homes and move into ever growing homeless camps.
• Their kids, hungry at home, will not be fed at school either, and the schools, with 50 children to a classroom with one
tired and frustrated teacher with no aides or other help, will become battlegrounds.
• There will be roads, since the right to exploit and pollute the earth until the last drop of carbohydrates has been
extracted and used is sacred to the Kochs and the Republicans, but most of us won’t have the wherewithal to use them.
And we won’t have public transportation.
• Our beautiful and precious environment will be sold for pennies to polluters, along with our public utilities.
• Health care? Without bargaining rights, the thing that is considered a basic human right throughout the Western world
and much of the rest of the world, will not be available to the majority of Wisconsinites. Eventually the health care industry
too will go belly up and its employees will join the ever-swelling ranks of the unemployed. But our rulers will make sure that
we get pregnant non-stop by making family planning and contraception unavailable and abortion illegal. Women will again
die in unsanitary and dangerous abortion mills. Yes, Walker and his supporters are pre-lifers, loving a child until she or he
are born!
In such an environment, we will find ourselves fighting for the extremely low-wage jobs that Walker’s patrons will throw to
us. And if we can shop at all, it’ll have to be in their Walmarts.
Promising 250,000 new jobs, Walker first eliminated any hope for the thousands of good jobs that would have been created
by a high-speed train. He’s now working to eliminate every other good job that exists in Wisconsin. Once public employees
are laid off and those who remain work harder for less money and no benefits, the same will happen in the private sector.
And keep in mind that the “good” private sector, the one that creates family-supporting jobs, starts new businesses and
hires employee,s wants to be in places like the Wisconsin that we’ve known—a state with a good quality of life, good
services, good education, good programs for the less fortunate, one with arts and culture.
Walker’s Wisconsin will not be one of these places. It’ll be a third world banana republic. Walker has declared war on us!
But no! The scheme isn’t working as planned! We are blessed to see Wisconsin wake up and refuse to be kicked to the
ground! Wisconsinites, generally polite and wary of conflict, have risen to the challenge.

Thousands of rallyists at the Wisconsin State Capitol
Wisconsin, I love you!!!! More than at any other time during my 26 years here.
I am Esty Dinur, a public employee and a host of a call-in show on WORT, 89.9 FM, the
community radio station that has been exemplary in its coverage of the Wisconsin
rebellion. It’s also the only local station that has three weekly hours dedicated to women’s
programming. And it is threatened now because of the federal cuts to the Corporation for
Public Broadcasting, which provides part of its funding. You should also know that non-Fox
journalists, including, I hear, reporters for the Rachel Maddow show, are having problems
getting their press credentials recognized at the Capitol currently. As of today, new rules
ban recording devices in the galleries of the State Assembly and Senate.
Truthful journalism is too dangerous for the current rulers of America.
I am also a member of Veterans for Peace, having served in the Israeli army but believing
that peace far surpasses war, militarism and intervention as a means to interact with other
nations and individuals. Furthermore, the military budget of this country, the largest in the
world even though no one’s trying to attack the United States, is directly linked to the lack of
money here. While our tax money is used to kill children, women and men in many parts of
the world, the suffering of children, women and men at home grows.
I’d like to thank the organizers for inviting me and many other women to
speak today. We’ve had amazing grassroots organizing since the
Wisconsin Uprising started but we’ve had very few women’s voices
heard. Mostly men have been speaking for us, some of them time and
again, in every rally and on every media outlet. My friends, women
matter, women will suffer more than men from some very mean-spirited
parts of the bill, and women are immensely capable of speaking for our
movement. Let our voices be heard!
Similarly, people of color and immigrants, who will be affected in larger
numbers and in more profound ways, have been absent from the
microphone. I ask our brothers who’ve been basking in the limelight—
and who I appreciate and value—to remember that they have not been
elected or chosen by the movement to speak for all. Please suggest
your female and non-white sisters and brothers to the media or rally
organizers next time they call on you.
All eyes are on Wisconsin—because it is a proving ground for a plan
hatched and carried out by the incredibly rich, the tea party which they
created and are financing, and the lunatic fringe of the GOP—all one
and the same, really—to implement in the US the kind of program they’
ve employed throughout the Third World.
In this model, the Western world supports a very small and very wealthy
ruling class in countries that have been depleted, by the West, of their
natural resources. The citizens of these countries become ever poorer
and, as economies fail, the west comes in again, through international
financial institutions, and lends money to the ruling class which, in turn,
agrees to austerity programs.

Thousands, tens of thousands,
hundreds of thousands, have been
coming from all over the state to tell
Scott Walker that we won’t let him trash
this beautiful land, nor take away our
right to decent lives. And we’re doing it
PEACEFULLY! PEACEFULLY!
Mind you, it won’t be enough to restore
the right to collective bargaining,
important as that is. The bill is full of
dangerous, horrible initiatives. It’s
incumbent upon us to make sure that
the unions don’t settle on collective
bargaining and go home. We must not
allow for any concessions. The bill has
to go. All of it!
All eyes are on Wisconsin and it’s our
role to show this country and the world
that we understand the conniving of the
ruling class and we won’t allow it to
manifest. We will fight back--without
violence. We will fight with love and
determination for we know what’s right
and we know how to get there WITH
OUR HANDS CLEAN!
On Wisconsin!
