Madison-Obihiro Sister Cities Fundraiser
A video report by Heidi M. Pascual
The Madison-Obihiro Sister Cities, Inc. held a fundraiser on March 26, 2009 at Edgewater Hotel in
Madison, with very special guests -- elementary children from Obihiro, Japan -- some of whom
Madison Mayor David Cieslewicz met during his visit to Obihiro last year. MOSC Board President Jo
Oyama Miller welcomed everyone who attended and thanked Kikkoman for sponsoring the event.
There was an exhibit of extraordinary photographs by Kouichi Urashima, well-known for his photos
for all-seasons of an elm tree near the bank of Tokachi river. Muramoto Restaurant provided many
of the finger foods, including the most delicious tangy sushis and tofu. Satoko Someya provided the
entertainment, while Mayor David Cislewicz  spoke about his experiences in Obihiro and the
"hospitality" he received there which, he said, "was never heard of in the United States." Cieslewicz
noted the comparable similarities between Madison and Obihiro and emphasized that this
relationship is one of the gems we have in Madison.
