Milwaukee's Hale O Malo Polynesian Dance
Group performs at Olbrich Botanical Gardens
Milwaukee's Hale O Malo Polynesian dancers visually transported Wisconsinites to the sunny islands of
Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, New Zealand and Fiji with their traditional dance numbers on February 21, 2009 at
Olbrich Botanical Gardens. The show opened with emcee Malia Lani Chow asking trivia questions about
Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, and giving away key chains and decorative flowers for the hair to those who
answered correctly. The dancers awed the audience with their energetic hula and Tahitian dances, while
the "haka" male warrior dancer showed how "big" the muscles are of a Samoan warrior. Some small kids
even cried upon seeing the "warrior" with is painted face, "scary" eyes, and war-like poses. Some
audience members were later called onstage to "learn" some hula moves as well as "haka" war dance
moves which actually left people laughing in the end.
