Nepali Americans celebrate Dashain
Nepali Americans in Wisconsin, led by the
Nepali American Friendhip Association (NAFA),
gathered at Eagle Heights Community Center in
Madison on October 3 to celebrate Dashain, the
longest and most auspicious festival in the
Nepalese calendar. In Nepal, it is usually
celebrated for 15 days (September through
October), in honor of goddess Durga and all her
manifestations, and to commemorate the victory of
goodness versus evil. Local Nepali Americans,
dressed in their best clothes, performed rituals and
pujas, shared traditional foods, offered a cultural
program, and presented scholarships and awards
to outstanding students and athletes. NAFA Pres.
Sreedhar Ranabhat was proud to report on NAFA’s
accomplishments for the year and to welcome as
special guests, the Nepali Minister for Finance and
his wife. — HMPascual
