


| Assistant to the Mayor - Communications Director This position is responsible for oversight and management of all media relations activities for the Mayor. Duties include, but are not limited to: development of short-term and long-term communications strategies; drafting of press releases, columns, talking points and other materials; coordinating responses to media inquiries, including on-the-record comment when appropriate; proffering stories to the media; and organization of press conferences and other events. This position is also responsible for assisting with policy development in furtherance of the Mayor's goals and objectives. Qualifications: The successful applicant will have significant experience working in a high-pressure, fast-paced media relations environment. Excellent writing skills, including the ability to write quickly and accurately under challenging deadlines, are also required. Familiarity with the political process, particularly as it relates to local government, is preferred. Residency in the City of Madison is required. Starting salary is $78,000 annually.
