APIAVote’s #WeTheAAPI Ambassador Program is an initiative which provides40 AAPI student organizations from
23 states and 40 college campuses across the United States with the skills and resources necessary to amplify
and educate the AAPI community about the importance of civic engagement and political participation.

The 2017-2018 ambassador cohort includes campus organizations from 22 states ranging from the Asian Student
Union, Korean Student Association, Chinese Student Association, Sikh Student Association, South Asian Student
Association, to greek organizations such as Alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority and Lambda Phi Epsilon
International Fraternity.

Youth Ambassadors

Voting is a habit-forming practice, and voting young prepares the electorate to keep voting when they get older. Out
of all eligible Asian American and Pacific Islander voters 26.7% are AAPI ages 18-30—a significant share of the
citizen voting age population. Engagement with AAPI youth is a critical component of voter outreach.

Out of all racial and ethnic groups, Asian American youth are the least likely to be registered to vote in 2012, yet they
are some of the most engaged in volunteering and other forms of involvement in the community. There is extensive
potential in engaging the AAPI youth across the United States, especially on college campuses with active Asian
American and Pacific Islander organizations and students.

Internships
The APIAVote Internship Program strives to encourage and cultivate young AAPI student leaders to explore a career
in the public sector or the political arena. This internship program will also provide hands on experience and
training on how to organize and implement voter activities to increase the participation of AAPIs in the electoral
process.

Conferences
APIAVote participates in several AAPI student conferences across the nation to provide workshops and trainings to
students so they learn different organizing strategies, develop their own sense of power, and have tangible
strategies on how to best turn out voters from their campus and uplift the voices of AAPI students in their community.
APIAVote attends regional conferences that bring over 800-1000 students like the East Coast Asian American
Student Union (ECAASU), the Midwest Asian American STudent Union (MAASU), and the Southeast Regional
Conference for AAPI Leaders (SERCAAL). APIAVote also attends ethnic-specific conferences like the Hmong
National Conference, the Union of North American Vietnamese Student Associations (UNAVSA) , and the Filipino
Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue (FIND Inc.)

Each of these conferences bring a unique array of AAPI students to dialogue about how their community
overcomes adversity. APIAVote develops culturally competent workshops that addresses and supports these
communities to encourage real life action.
