The Indian Graduate Students Association (IGSA)
at UW-Madison, in coordination with Asha-Madison,
held a fund-raiser Sept. 5 at Union South, to help the
victims of recent floods in Bihar, India. Natalia
Hildner, a UW-Madison graduate and a well-known
Kathak performer and choreographer, led the
following performers who freely contributed their
talents for the cause: Prathiba Nandagudi
(Bharatnatyam); Sunil Sunkara (Kathak); Richard
Hildner and Numa Armacanqui (Peruvian music and
vocals).
According to Natalia who arrived in Madison from
India on an advance study tour, there is so much
hardship in Bihar as the people who were hit by this
tragedy are already very poor and in need of basic
services even before the floods came. Now, they lost
everything, and many families also lost their loved
ones. Funds raised from this special IGSA-Asha
event went to the flood victims of Bihar through TSN,
a nonprofit in India. — HMPascual
