Schoenstatt Family Day

A gathering of the faithful
              by Heidi M. Pascual
Catholic Filipinos in Wisconsin are naturally
drawn into local places of worship where they
can exercise their faith fully, stay connected to
their community, and meet others of the same
faith.
  The Schoenstatt Shrine along Cottage Grove
Rd. in Madison tops the list, being among 180
replica shrines built on every continent of the
world and the first one built in America. The
Madison Shrine is called "Founder Shrine"
named after Father Joseph Kentenich, the
founder of the Schoenstatt Movement, whose
focus is apostolic work, including charity and
education; Christian personality development;
and community.
  On August 5, the Shrine was full of families
and friends who enjoyed each other's company;
raised funds for the Shrine's projects through a
rummage sale and a community feast; and
shared each other's cultures through musical
performances. Several Filipino Americans
participated in the festivities, including the
Philippine Dancers of Madison, under the
leadership of Rufino Licos (executive director),
Raechel Licos (choreographer), and Nanette
Dacumos (asst. choreographer), who
showcased Filipino dances such as
Tinikling,
Maglalatik
, Lantern Dance, and Carinosa.
