Wis. Tamil Sangam’s tribute to music, art & literature
Muthamizh Vizha
     Every year, the Wisconsin Tamil Sangam celebrates Tamil
culture through a big event that highlights the arts: music and
literature. WITS leadership conducts contests for children and
youth, to strengthen their connection to their culture and enhance
their innate artistic and literary abilities.
     Last fall, at the Verona Area High School Performing Arts
Center, WITS — under the leadership of Pres. Dr. S. Prabhakaran
— showcased local talents who performed various numbers.
Performances included a devotional song by Anirudh Sivakumar;
Tamil Rhymes in fun tunes; song by Surya Ganesan;
bharatnatyam by Kalaanjali School dancers & students of Aruna
Rajagopal; Amman dance; a fashion show that represented the
five elements of nature (earth, wind, water, fire, & sky); carnatic
songs; dance by Boyz of MSN (choreographed by Arul
Sundaramurthy); and instrumental ensemble taught by Viji
Desikan; dance medley by Harish Prabaharan; and the Kolattam,
a communal dance from parts of Southern India by the WITS
ladies. —
