YuanXiao Festival
Lantern Festival Food Fair
The Madison Area Chinese Community Organization (MACCO) led by Jim Lin
(below, left) and MACCO’s board (past and present), some of whom are shown below (l-
r, Kexin Li, Ning Yang and Jeff Nie), held a successful Lantern Festival Food Fair on
Feb. 22 at Eagle Heights Community Center. Hundreds of people came to enjoy the
food prepared and sold by several families and a few restaurants to benefit MACCO.
For only $6, a person was able to purchase up to eight different dishes, from a great list
of menus that included: Sichuan noodle, Shanghai spring roll, YangZhou fried rice,
bean jelly, ShanDong pancake, Eight Treasures rice congee, hot and spicy
vegetables, pot sticks, Tofu Skin & Black Fungus, chicken with tea flavor,  and coconut
& nut sweet rice cake. Amazingly, all tables were occupied!
The event was a celebration of the 15th day after New Year’s Day. Amid the
wonderful dinner, people enjoyed being together, laughing, talking and keeping each
other updated on what’s going on with their lives. There was a continuous video of
MACCO’s events through the years, reminding one and all of their community
participation and culture-sharing with other people in Wisconsin.  — Heidi M. Pascual
