Raising funds for Haiti disaster relief
On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, local Lowell and O'Keefe students gathered
on the corner of Dunning and Atwood Avenue to raise much needed money for
the American Red Cross Haiti relief fund. Students and parents offered up hot
chocolate and baked goods, and Johnson Brothers Coffee Roasters donated
coffee, to hand out to anyone making a donation on this sunny, unusually warm
January day. St. Mary's Hospital graciously offered to match the funds made at
this grassroots events. Students were able to raise nearly $1,225 and with St.
Mary's contribution, the grand total is nearly $2,500. One hundred percent of the
funds raised will go to the American Red Cross' efforts to help Haiti.
