Andy Choi of Madison, Wisconsin, received a national
award for his work as a TV anchor and reporter for Madison’
s WISC-TV.  The Radio and Television Digital News
Association recognized Mr. Choi’s achievements in October
2011 with a National Edward R. Murrow Award.  He was the
single winner of the honor as a writer in small market
television.

Mr. Choi has been with WISC-TV since 2005.  When I first
saw him on TV, which I watch more than I should, he was

reporting from Janesville, a city about 40 miles southeast of Madison.  After
working there for awhile, he transferred to Madison and covers all kinds of
events.  According to a news release, “His colleagues said his reporting
captures a glimpse of the human spirit and shows why the most compelling
emotions are universal.”  I agree.  He covers both fun and non-so-fun situations.
When it’s the fun-type, his smiles are infective, not only for those whom he’s
interviewing but also those who view his work.  I’ve seen him at both social and
political events.  His relationships with fellow staff members reflect collegial congeniality and mutual respect for jobs well
done.

The National Edward R. Murrow Award has the reputation of being one of journalism’s highest honors.  WISC-TV’s News
Director was quoted in the news release as follows: “We are all proud of the work he presents for Madison-area viewers
every day.”  The award was presented in New York City to Mr, Choi who was accompanied by his mother and brother.  As
one might expect, Andy’s back at work as though nothing special occurred.  Good for him!  As some might put it:  He rocks!
